I bet you sometimes it must feel like you weigh the world on your shoulders.
Running a business is tough; we have challenges, but it’s just part of the landscape; the key thing is, how do you respond and deal with the challenges that come your way?
Many, many years ago, I was talking to my first business coach about a few clients that I was worried about; there were a few things that weren’t going well, and I didn’t really know what to do about it, and I was playing this tape over and over and over in my head. And I’ve spent loads of energy and loads of time thinking about this particular challenge.
At the time, my coach challenged me: – Look, it’s not a very good use of your time, it’s not a very good use of your energy, so what could you do about it? What are some of the things that you could do to take action and change that outcome? so I rattled off the list.
Out of that list, she said: – Well, which one of those things do you think it makes sense for you to take action on? I chose one thing and: Hey, Presto! I sorted out the problem, and I sorted out the client issue.
For me displacing worry with activity has now become a mantra; I use it in everything that I do, and I want to give this gift over to you: next time you find yourself worrying about something – displace worry with activity Worried about losing a client? Well, pick up the phone and go and speak to that client Worried about a team member potentially leaving? Well, go over to that team member and have a conversation with him; worried about your suppliers letting you down? Well, again, do something about it.
I reckon, if you can focus on displacing worry with focused activity, you will generate much better results most of the time. Yes, it’s not a magic wand, but it is so much better than playing that tape over and over in your head and just getting yourself all down in the dumps.
So, where do you need to start displacing worry with activity?
