Getting out of the day to day
How dependent is your business on you?
Take a step back and look at your business. Are you stuck in the day to day which is stopping you doing the business owner work?
- Does your business rely on your day to day involvement?
- Do you feel that you might hold your business back if it continued to grow?
- Do you have the bandwidth for the day to day and strategic work?
Many business owners that I start to work with find that they are just not able to focus on the bigger picture strategic work, as their businesses are so overly dependent on them. This video will talk you through how to put things in place to ensure you are not bottlenecking or constraining the growth of your business.
Functional responsibilities
One of the things that do with my clients is work on getting them into a position where they can step away from the functional day to day responsibilities. I help them take a step back to look at what team members they have in place and to identify where the gaps are. There’s no point in trying to relinquish responsibilities if you don’t have a team who have the skills to take on these responsibilities and eventually do them better than you can.
Delegation
There’s no point in just delegating a whole bunch of stuff to people who don’t have the skills and capability to do it. We want to create a situation where if you are going to delegate things, that you have the right people in place with the right skill to be able to do those things eventually better than you can. So when you have people in place, we’ll get to work and delegate those things where you don’t have people in place, this now presents an opportunity to recruit that needs to be done with some commercial sensitivity, we need to look at what you can afford. But more often than not businesses can bring on really good people and get sufficient value from those people if they understand how to recruit properly in the first place
Attracting A players
So that brings me on to my next piece of work. It’s about helping you understand how to attract the right people into your company, people that have the skills, the attitude and the capability to help you achieve the outcomes that you want for your business. That takes a bit of work, it takes a bit of thinking that takes a bit of training. But essentially you need to understand how to attract a players, the best people out there that you can afford to come into your business. So in order to bring those people into your business, you need to understand how to engage them and how to convert them onto your team. Once we brought those people in, then it’s about making sure that you develop those people that you manage them properly, then able to inspire them and bring them along the journey, your ability as a leader to be able to take a step back and delegate effectively to be able to bring the right people on board to be able to develop those people and make sure that they are part of your long term journey is absolutely essential.
And that’s why coaching is so so important. It’s a tool to help you do these things properly. And I’m there to help my clients push through any barriers to address challenges in real time and ultimately to get themselves into a position where they can do the work that really matters. The business owner work
