This week on “Mind Your Own Business” the importance of pacing yourself when it comes to setting goals.

It’s that time of year, where everybody is talking about the goals that they’ve set themselves, their New Year’s resolutions and I just wanted to share a concept with you that I think is really relevant to where we are right now and that can help you achieve the things that you want to achieve in 2022. The principle is called “The Four Burners Principle” and the way that it works is that you’ve got four burners and each of those burners represents a different part of your life.

So you’ve got friends, family, work and health If you have all four burners on full, burning at the same time the chances are, that going to run out of energy you’re going to burn out and you’re not going to be able to achieve everything that you want to achieve. If you want to make progress, you should turn one burner off if you want to be successful, you should turn two burners off. You only have a certain amount of time and attention and it’s important that you choose where you want to apply that time and attention. You’ve got the whole year, it is absolutely fine to focus on, say work and family for this quarter and next quarter to change that up to health and work and the following quarter to change it up again you don’t have to have the same two burners over the course of the year and you definitely don’t want to have all four burners raging at once.

Most people set goals with the best of intentions but because they’ve set themselves up for failure, they just run out of steam and that’s not what we want We want to make sure that we set ourselves meaningful goals that we actually make progress, that we feel good and then continue pushing ourselves further on and further on.

So, I hope you found that useful “Four Burners” concept essentially, focus on two burners over this next period of time Don’t give yourself too much to do and hopefully that’ll give you a much better outcome as 2022 unfolds.
